Laser Midwinters East 18-21 Feb 2010

Day 3+4:
4 races has been sailed during the finals, with really light wind 3 to 7 knots. My bad start didn't help me in front...but at least I learned to fight until the end and win places! My speed upwind was not good neither, so I had to do good tactics to catch up places. It was hard, but I could finish this championship with a good day and end up 7th overall out of 93.
My big training session is ending today. After 5 weeks in Florida and great results (5th at World cup Miami, 4th at Nord Americain championship and 7th here)  I m really looking forward to going home and spending some time at University for few weeks before next World cup in Palma de Majorque.

Day 2:
Only 2 races have been sailed today in light wind, 8 knts decreasing to 4knts. It was a hard day for the nerve with this long regattas of 1 hour 20 in this shifty light wind. The strong courant caused many general recalls on blak flag, but not me today!
I'm not content with my speed upwind and couldn't always do the tactic I wanted to do. I could finish 6th at the first day of the day. After a great 2nd start, I could sail into the top 4. Again, I was quite slow upwind and passed the last downwind mark in the 6th position...but I got a yellow flag for pumping on the reach. I had to do a 720° and lost few to end up 11th.
In general after 5 races (counting all the races), I'm 27th, still with my BFD counting. Tomorow will start the finals. The 47 first will sail now together.

Day 1:
Freezing cold today: water  8° and air 12°C....whouaa that was a good preparation for my comeback to Europe.
With a north wind from 14 decreasing 8 knots, we could sail 3 races from 1 hour 20min each. I had not enought concentration today. I did mistakes that I normaly don't do. During the first race, I was 2nd but did 3 wrong tacks on the end of the last upwind and ended up 5th. Or even more, I did many 720° due to stupid mistakes. During the last start procedure on "black flag", I tacked at 30secondes a bit to closed from the ligne and crossed it. So they kicked me out of the race at the top mark (where I was 2nd...) Well, that was not a good day for me
But at least, I'm really happy of my speed downwind. I'v been working on this and I could see the improvement.

Training:
I'v been training here in Clearwater for 8 days. Except the exeptionnal low temperature (5-10°), the weather conditions have been perfect for sailing. Everyday, we had 10-30 knots, waves and current. We've done many downwind in big waves which was one point I had to work on...so it was a really good training for me.

On Thursday will start the Mid-Winters East Regatta in Clearwater in Florida. 189 Lasers from 29 countries are going to sail in the golf of Mexico. For my last regatta here in Florida, we will be 93 Lasers Radial from 17 countries. Nice, I'm looking forward. All the news will be online everyday!
